It’s impossible to say which angles the officiating crew was looking at during the review, but of the ones I’ve seen, this is the most damning for Auburn. Even then, is it truly indisputable? Per Justin Hokanson at On3, Auburn is in discussions with the SEC office. Maybe Auburn will get another official suspended along with an Auburn-friendly social media post. That did us a whole lot of good during football season.
If that review goes Auburn’s way, there’s a win in conference play. But this game was hardly decided by a buzzer beater. Giving up a 33–6 run at home is inexcusable.
Steven Pearl said “fatigue” set in during a second-half stretch filled with turnovers. A string of lazy inbound passes allowed Texas A&M to crawl back into the game and completely silence Neville Arena. Auburn simply did not have the depth to press for 40 minutes.
Just like after Athens, this team is going to need the memory of a goldfish to turn things around against Arkansas on Saturday.
