Dothan native Thomas Dowd joins the Tigers with one year of eligibility remaining following an impressive junior campaign, in which he averaged a double-double with 14.4 points and 10.1 rebounds per game, ranking 14th nationally in rebounding. His career-high 25-point, 19-rebound performance led Troy to an underdog win over San Diego State last season.
At 6-foot-8 and shooting 44% from the field, head coach Steven Pearl will look to maximize Dowd’s versatility, especially his ability to defend multiple positions. The Sun Belt Tournament MVP gives Auburn a do-it-all option in the frontcourt.
“Offensively you can put Thomas anywhere on the floor and he’s going to have a positive impact on the game... Thomas is a multi-level scorer who can get to the rim and finish through contact and his percentages from 3 don’t do justice for the level of 3-point shooter we see him projecting in our system. He is an underrated passer averaging over two per game because he is always looking to make the right play offensively for his teammates."
After going from an unranked recruit out of high school to a breakout star of Troy’s team last season, Dowd committed to Auburn over offers from Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and Texas Tech, staying home in Alabama for his final collegiate season.

Role & Starter Projection
Dowd was upfront with Coach Pearl about his expectations as a starter. He didn’t want the job handed to him, telling Pearl, “Listen, I’m going to come here and earn a starting spot. I don’t want you to promise me anything like other schools have. I want to come in and earn it.”
Dowd started all but one of his 34 appearances last season and helped lead Troy to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances by winning consecutive Sun Belt Tournament titles.
Looking at Auburn’s current roster, Dowd can step in as a starter at either the 3 or 4. He’s an adaptable, athletic forward with elite rebounding ability and clear year-over-year development during his time at Troy. His collegiate production is outlined below.
